Today marks the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day! This global celebration is honored by millions yearly on March 8 as a way to recognize where women came from and strive to be economically, politically and through social achievements.

CARE, the world’s leading humanitarian organization that fights poverty amongst women and girls, is hosting an array of events to bring awareness and celebration to this monumental day. Thousands are marching up the steps of Capitol Hill in hopes of bringing a better world to women and girls, concert-enthusiasts are gathering to hear tunes from artists like India.Arie and Michael Franti, the Empire State Building is lit with orange lights (CARE’s signature color), and a live celebrity Twitter auction is taking place in honor of achievements made by women and girls from around the world.

Not only is today a celebration of women’s achievements, but also the entire month. The month of March is dedicated to the history of women and their willpower, perseverance, and determination to create a nation where women would receive basic rights. So today and everyday, celebrate women’s lives and their contributions to the world! Inspire yourself and others to do the same!
