Whether it be your LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, niche web community, or your personal/business blog, you are likely engaging in some sort of social media for your business. It takes time and effort to manage your online profiles/accounts, while still successfully managing your business.

Principal of White Book Agency, Nancy Vaughn, wrote a post for PR Couture about streamlining social media efforts. While directed toward fashion designers, the points are relevant for other industries as well. Here are a few tips from the article:

Give it time
Give yourself at least a month of frequent activity to become familiar with the community you’ve joined. Don’t be shy – reach out, communicate, engage with your audience and new friends. If you loathe getting on the site and engaging with the crowd – you’re on the wrong platform, try again.

Use RSS/Email subscriptions
Sign up and subscribe to updates from your favorite websites and blogs so you’re kept in the know. You can do this through Google Reader or Feedburner and the like. By doing this, you’ll have the latest news and posts delivered to you once it’s posted. You can alleviate the step of surfing to locate new information.
