We can certainly agree with the saying: “there’s no such things as a dumb question.” Now while we can agree with this, we also know that there is such a thing as a smart question, or even better, smarter questions.
This past weekend on Feb. 22, 2015, the #askhermore hashtag at The 87th Academy Awards was a great example of the need for smart questions. The #askhermore hashtag calls for reporters/interviewers to ask women more meaningful questions beyond their clothing and who they are wearing.
We work in the fashion industry so we definitely find what someone is wearing to be relevant, and admittedly the red carpet at The Academy Awards is a mini-Fashion Super Bowl outside of Fashion Week in NYC. Even so, we do value the questions that dig deeper.
When we work with our clients, we conduct a deep dive assessment (er, “get all up in their business”) as we want to have a thorough understanding of the brands we work with, what their goals are, how they work, what’s important to them, etc.
We have the privilege of working with some really bright clients, and #askhermore reminded us of those clients who liked our “in your business” questions and used that as an indicator for understanding how we think. And when you’re thinking, you can experience more, explore more etc. In some cases:
Asking questions can allow for unmatched creative thinking and dreaming big!
