3_twitter-logoThe 3% Conference officially kicks off today (Oct. 16 & 17, 2013) and agency owners, creative directors, creative industry professionals, recruiters and more from around the globe will be in attendance to support more female creative leadership in advertising agencies. Hosted at the InterContinental Hotel in San Francisco, the event will attract hundreds of attendees today and tomorrow.

Launched last year in September, Kat Gordon, founder of the 3% Conference (and also founder/creative director at Maternal Instinct and Savor Sister), saw a growing business issue within advertising agencies which inspired the launch of the conference. “Women are top consumers, making more than 80% of purchases, yet 90% of them report that marketers don’t understand them. A key reason why is that women very rarely have a hand in the creation of the work,” says Gordon. “I know because I am part of that elusive 3%, trained as an advertising creative director.”

The 3% Conference is now a movement that promotes a “sense of community” through multi-city road shows, an involved online community, a student scholarship fund, creative awards and a business blog. And this year’s event will include Speed Mentoring sessions (created by Social Goodness co-founders, Rebecca Rivera and Jeff Miller) with top industry pros.

You can follow the conference updates via Twitter @3PercentConf and use #3PercentConf and #ChangeTheRatio to get in on the conversations.

And this article: Name five female chief executives just came out on PR Week today. Perhaps another movement is in the works!
